then on monday we begin our 7th annual Free Comic Month!
Well, it is that time of year again - Free Comic Book Day! The one Saturday a year when comic fans in droves will make the pilgrimage to their local comic shop (as opposed to a Wednesday) to get a few free books and share in the festivities. Beginning monday, we will offer tons of cool free comics all month long. The less expensive ones will not even require a puchase, and for the more expensive ones or large sets, there will be different purchase requirements.
Our goals are to turn non readers into comic book readers, do our tiny little part to help the industry get back to where it should be !

IRON MAN COMIC BOOKS, GRAPHIC NOVELS

The hero of the Iron Man comics started out as the gifted son of an industrialist, who entered university at 15. He ended up taking over his father's empire, turning it into a multi-million dollar business engaged in defense work for the military at the age of 21.

While in Viet Nam, testing one of his company's weapons, Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man, is injured by the shrapnel of a landmine, with a piece lodging near his heart. Facing certain death unless it is removed, Stark is captured by the Vietnamese, who promise to release him if he builds them a super weapon.

Stark, immobilized by his injury, teams up with another scientist, but instead of building them a weapon, he builds himself a suit of iron, with the electrical power to keep his damaged heart beating. His fellow prisoner sacrifices himself, delaying their captors until the new Iron Man can fully charge the suit and escape.

When he returns to the U.S., Stark improves the suit's functions, and plans to market it until he is called on at a tennis match to don his own, to defeat a group of terrorist. Realizing the suit's potential in the wrong hands, he keeps it to himself, and his identity as Iron Man, a closely guarded secret.

In the initial issue, Iron Man was part of Tales of Suspense, with a great deal of interaction between him and Captain America. For many years, he was part of the Avengers, before rising to his own starring role in the Iron Man comic books that rolled off the press in 1968.

Description Highlights for Children®: An Enduring Family Favorite
Highlights for Children educational magazine is dedicated to helping children grow in basic skills and knowledge, in creativeness, in ability to think and reason, in sensitivity to others, in high ideals, and worthy ways of living--for children are the world's most important people.

There's a reason grown ups smile when they hear "Highlights for Children." Maybe it's the memories of a childhood filled with Hidden Pictures™ and characters like Goofus and Gallant®. They remember the excitement of getting Highlights® in the mail, of poring over articles, stories, and puzzles again and again.
With kids growing up faster than ever, Highlights is here to help them slow down and take time to enjoy the simple joys of just being a kid. They laugh and wonder. Think and grow. They learn and create their own precious memories of Highlights' Fun with a Purpose®.
What is Fun with a Purpose? It's Highlights' special combination of entertainment and learning that lets children enjoy themselves while developing important skills like reading and reasoning.
Kids don't even know how Highlights is "good for them." To them it's just good fun.

Customer Reviews
The Mailman Thinks We Have Children!
My husband and I have three cats, no kids. However, I'm a writer and this magazine is wonderful. I love using it as a guide to find out what is cool and what is not cool when it comes to kids. And yes, I will confess, I love the rebus stories and I do all of the puzzles! This is a neat gift to give as well.

Absolutely the best magazine for young children
My kids (5 % 6) love Highlights. It's a real treat for them when the new issue shows up. They can read much of the magazine themselves but they still beg me over and over again to read them the stories. They race through the hidden pictures and love the brain teasers.
